The Finance Committee keeps our vision for Hwange existent. Every project depends on resources being managed wisely and fairly. This committee is entrusted with making sure that our resources are used with purpose, transparency and accountability. More than just balancing budgets, the Finance Committee safeguards trust between ATH, our members and the communities we serve. The Committee carefully plans, mobilises resources and supports other committees while ensuring that our work in tourism and conservation is not only sustainable today, but strong enough to last for generations.
Our Objectives include ensuring sound financial governance and compliance with legal and organisational standards; developing, monitoring and revising annual budgets in line with strategic goals; creating sustainable fundraising strategies to support ATH programs and initiatives; strengthening transparency and accountability across all financial transactions; providing financial reporting and updates to the Board and stakeholders; supporting capacity-building for local tourism operators and partners in financial literacy.
What we aim to do in 2025
- Quarterly Budget Reviews
- Funding Strategy Development
- Financial Training
- Stakeholder Reporting
- Audit & Compliance Oversight
Financial Literacy & Training
The Finance Committee is committed to empowering Hwange residents with practical financial skills through workshops, training sessions and hands-on guidance. These programs will focus on budgeting, saving, and managing resources, equipping community members including local schools, youth groups, and small-scale entrepreneurs with the knowledge they need to make informed financial decisions. The Committee aims to enable individuals and groups to plan effectively, grow their initiatives sustainably, and take ownership of projects that improve their livelihoods and the local economy.
Support for Income-Generating Projects
The Committee will actively support small-scale, community-driven income-generating projects across Hwange. By providing funding guidance, resources, and oversight, the Committee seeks to help residents develop sustainable enterprises ranging from agricultural initiatives to craft and tourism ventures. These ventures would generate income for families while promoting local culture and conservation efforts. These projects are designed not only to boost household incomes but also to foster community resilience, create employment opportunities and encourage economic independence across Hwange.
Budget Planning for Community Projects
The Finance Committee plans to work closely with community groups, schools and local organisations to develop strategic budgets for projects that directly benefit Hwange residents. This includes identifying priorities, allocating resources efficiently and ensuring that funds are used in ways that maximise impact. By supporting well-planned, transparent and accountable community projects, the Committee aims to enhance local development, improve access to educational and social resources and strengthen the link between sustainable financial management and long-term community growth.
The Finance Committee is part of a broader community of Tourism Operators in Hwange whose mission is to showcase and protect the integrity of all national parks in the Hwange region including the surrounding ecosystems, ecology, water bodies, cultural sites and communities.
