On September 3rd, 2020, the Association of Tourism Hwange (ATH) convened a critical Stakeholders Meeting to address the pressing issue of Special Mining Grants issued to Afrochine Energy of the Tsigashan Group and Zhongxin Coal Mining Group. These grants affect key areas within Hwange National Park, including Deteema Dam and Masuma Dam.
The meeting brought together stakeholders to discuss the potential impacts on Hwange’s tourism, environment, wildlife and cultural heritage, as well as the health and well-being of local communities. A unified position was drafted to advocate for the protection of this vital ecosystem.
